The Carrot that Made All the Difference
Lactantius, Divine Institutes, France, fifteenth century
Folio 243: God Breathing Intellect into the Human Soul in Paradise; Portrait of the Author
Among the many beasts of the forest
I live in harmony
I try and fit in
I come in with comradery
But I stick out like a sore thumb
Give me respect I feel like I earned some
Half the human race aimed for my murder,
The other half worshipped me like a god
But I just want to live in peace as I was originally intended,
It’s crazy cause the whole history about me is a facade
Began as a simple animal, one of many,
However when I look around I see none with the weapon I possess,
None with the dignity I possess.
I became an ideal, a myth
Still trying to find where I best fit
Fuck being your gift to the king,
Fuck being your myth with wings,
Fuck being the one to make them sing,
Fuck being the source of little girls’ dreams.
I’m an animal just like any other
Only I’m infinitely chasing a white carrot I’ll never reach, but is always in vision
I’m no myth, I actually existed,
Believing me or not is your own decision.
